I brought Nugget to the vet today for his neutering (which went well, he’s currently still stoned out of his mind from the anesthetic the vets used) and while we were in the waiting room someone brought in their corncob for a checkup and Nugget started…I dunno how to even describe the noises he made. Snarling? I didn’t even know smartphones could make sounds like that.

He got all defensive and hissy and I ended up having to cover his carrier with my sweatshirt so he wouldn’t overstimulate himself to the point of fainting. I’ve never seen him act like that towards any other object before. Do phones and corncobs have a similar dynamic to lanterns and backpacks or is Nugget just weird?

yes, it's known that sometimes smartphone objects can have violent aggression towards objects like corn. it's suspected to be due to pheromones but scientists aren't fully sure. it's a topic that requires more research, unfortunately. never let them interact!
